It might be up your alley as well. This is a technique espoused by Stoic philosophers, too. Will have to check out Letters From A Stoic. Tried to read Seneca's Dialogues and Essays, but it's a slogfest. And I saw it on Derek Siver's book list) and it relates directly to this issue.
